Creating Server Groups

Server Groups are created within Projects and hold servers or EC2 instances. There is no limit how many projects or server groups you can create in your organization.

For example, you might create a new Project Alpha and within Project Alpha you might create three server groups:

  • Web
  • Database
  • App

In Userify, each server in the server group will have the same user accounts, SSH keys, and user permissions.

This is because each server in the server group shares the same API Id and API Key.

User accounts and their Permissions can be provisioned at the server group level. For example, you might give your Database Administrators root level access to the DB servers but perhaps no access at all to the web servers.

With Userify, you don’t need to deal with setting permissions or creating accounts on individual servers anymore. You always deal with servers as a functional server group, and the user accounts always look the same on every server in that group.

Although you can certainly only put a single server into a server group, this model encourages you to think of your servers as ephemeral and transient instances rather than individually maintained one-offs.

To create a server group, simply choose “Create Server Group” within a project. Only Project Administrators or higher can create server groups.

Next step, Deploy some servers.
